Safeguarding

Mill Lodge Primary School recognises the importance of providing an ethos and environment within school that will help children to be safe and to feel safe, including online. Safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility and all those directly connected (staff, volunteers, governors, leaders, parents, families, and learners) are an important part of the wider safeguarding system for children and have an essential role to play in making this community safe and secure.

We believe that the best interests of children always come first. All children have a right to be heard and to have their wishes and feelings taken into account.

Staff working with children at Mill Lodge Primary School will maintain an attitude of ‘it could happen here’ where safeguarding is concerned. When concerned about the welfare of a child, staff will always act in the best interests of the child and if any member of our community has a safeguarding concern about any child or adult, they should act and act immediately.

Operation Encompass:

Operation Encompass is a process whereby the police will inform a member of staff if a child or young person has experienced any domestic incident. This will be done prior to the start of the next school day. We know that children can be significantly harmed, physically and/or emotionally, during these situations, and that it also can affect their learning and behaviour in school. Information sharing between professional agencies allows school staff to provide emotional and practical support to their pupils experiencing domestic abuse.
